There's a lot of work ahead

The weekend work – baking, gardening and making things. ALL FUN!

awful weekend, but celebration today! January 31, 2005

Filed under: home — workahead @ 10:44 am

I spent Saturday resting, trying to put the cough and cold to rest, and it was working. By the early evening, I felt a lot better, coughing and sniffling a lot less. Then I ate dinner, and from then it went down hill! I spent the whole night getting up to throw up. It was not nice. So I then spent Sunday feeling dreadful, having to rest again. I’m feeling a bit better today, though I will still have to take it easy.

But today hubby and I celebrate six months of being married! He bought us a bean bag to go in our wonderful dining room as a present! The dining room incedently looks lovely. Dining table, carpet, piano are all in there. We just have to put a few belongings back and buy some curtains.

I’m looking forward to this week, not too busy for once, but a few different meetings to get me thinking!!! Plus I now have a piano to play!!!!

update… January 27, 2005

These past three days I have been really busy. I had another job interview yesterday, and it went well, so the rest is in God’s hands now. I have a stinker of a cough and cold, which is only getting worse as I’ve had no time to rest!!!! Today is not so busy, though making myself rest isn’t easy, I keep thinking of things to do!!!!!

The dining room will be complete this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!! The carpet fitters came this morning, their non arrival on Tuesday was a mix up of names, there were two Mrs P’s to deliver to this week and they got us confused! We bought a second hand dining table, and the piano (also second hand) will be delivered on Sunday. Then comes the fun bit of dressing the room (as they would say on 60 minute makeovers!). We got a lovely vase given to us for Christmas that will go perfectly in the room. We’ve already started discussing our plans for the living room!!! It’s going to be expensive – a summer project perhaps!!!!

I met with the church leadership last night, a good meeting, progress is being made to develop a strategy for youth work that I and they agree on. I was honest about a few scary things, including my difficulties with settling into the church. I’ve been thinking and reading a lot about church recently, and wondering why I prefer one over another. I’ll get round to blogging my thoughts on church soon.

I’m going to go and try out a new recipe – museli and apple bars! I just hope they’re better than the museli topped crumble I tried at the weekend!!! Not all health eating recipes are as nice as they look!

delivery annoyances!!! January 25, 2005

Filed under: home — workahead @ 1:42 pm

I’ve been waiting in all morning for the new dining room carpet to arrive and be fitted. We were given the timeslot ‘morning’ and at 1pm I got fed up and rang the carpet shop. They told me the delivery guy must be running late, and to give it another hour. That hour is up in twenty minutes, and because I have to be at work this afternoon, I will have to get them to deliver another time if they haven’t arrived by then.

I’m too polite to complain or ask for my money back, but I have a feeling hubby will have a few words to say to them!

I’ve made good use of the time I’ve had at home. I’ve just finished cleaning the oven! But apart from that I’ve written a bible study on Ephesians ch3, written a few things about the schoolswork I plan to do, and a few other boring things!

has it really been that long? January 24, 2005

Filed under: self — workahead @ 9:59 am

Have I really not blogged since thursday? Well to give you a quick update this is how I’ve been:

Fri – job interview was dull, job was dull, even if they offered me it, I doubt I’d take it. More anxious thoughts about whether I’m doing the right thing. Youth group was ok, I think my mind was only half there – sorry guys.

Sat – start of my cold, spent about an hour trying to find a house in the middle of nowhere. When we finally found it (why have house numbers 7 and 9 then followed by 23,25,27 etc!!!!) we bought a dining room table for £60. (Yes, dining room will be nearly done in a week!) Was in a baking mood, and had a go at making croissants. Hubby loves them, the french would throw them in the bin!!!

Sun – full blown cold, went to church and managed to stay awake, though did not feel too well! Sermon was good though, all about teamwork and the church. Came home, had some soup and went back to bed! Finished reading my book, spoke to my parents, followed by more anxious thinking about jobs and the future. Ironed hubby’s shirts and then sat up late talking through all my anxious thoughts to no resolution!!!!

So today, I’m feeling slightly better, trying to follow about three or four different plans for the future to see which one works out!!!!! Surely I’m just postponing the decision!!!! Anyway, if options 1 or 3 are to work, I need to find some funding for the youthwork I want to do. If only it was that easy!!!! I’m off to do more bid forming work!

got an interview January 20, 2005

Well, I have my first interview in ages tomorrow. It’s a bit scary, and as I don’t know if I want the job, it does make the interview slightly more difficult. I guess I just have to remember its my chance to interview them too! And once my part time job is sorted, it will make sorting the schools work easier. And hubby might be able to take the plunge and go full time!

Life is made a bit complicated, by the fact that I want to do the youthwork JNC qualification. If I put it off much longer, it will get harder and harder to get a youthwork job. But I’ll make it work somehow.

i did it!!! January 18, 2005

Yes, last night I performed at Leicester Magic Circle New Members Night. I didn’t perform my usual illusions, but a bit of kids magic. The trick basically goes as follows:

There are a few pieces of clothing on a table, and some cards with these items of clothing on. I begin by spelling the first piece of clothing (a scarf) with the cards, and on the last letter, the card is turned over to reveal a picture of a scarf! I then put on the scarf. This continues, except every time a volunteer spells a piece of clothing, they end up with a picture of a pair of underpants! I then give them a pair to wear!!! It’s a visual, entertaining trick, and it went down really well. I was really pleased, as I was panicking before I went to the meeting, imagining all the things that could go wrong. So now hubby reckons I’ll be known at Leicester Magic Circle for the ‘pants’ trick!!!! I think I’ll stick to illusions in future though!

rubbish January 17, 2005

Filed under: self — workahead @ 1:30 pm

My assembly tomorrow is all about rubbish. Not the rubbish we throw out, but the tendency we have to think we ourselves are rubbish. Of course the truth is that we are all precious and special, and we’re not rubbish. It’s not always that easy though. I know myself, that often I feel useless and rubbish, for many different reasons. Perhaps I think I’ve not done well at something, I’ve let myself down and so I feel like I’m rubbish. I have to hold onto the truth that I’m not. I have to remind myself of this, sometimes constantly.

So however you’re feeling today, remember YOU ARE PRECIOUS, you are precious to God, and you are precious to those around you. Believe it!

youth group January 14, 2005

Youth tonight was great. We played some cool games, I talked about the tsunami and about prayer, and then we had a go at designing a logo and some posters and flyers for our group. I’ve given all the group the blog address too, so guys, if you’re checking this out, then post a comment! (I also apologise for not writing much of interest this week! Ask me strange questions, and I’ll endeavour to give you the answers.)

I’m now about to finish my hot chocolate (with marshmallows of course) and go to bed.

Goodnight!

baking January 14, 2005

Filed under: food — workahead @ 1:46 pm

I baked a low fat apricot loaf yesterday, its really nice. I found this low fat cook book in the library and its got loads of really nice recipies in it, I’m going to be copying them out for ages.

I bought a book yesterday to write and stick recipies in. I’m always tearing them out of magazines! I have more recipies than time to try and cook them all!!!!

treasures January 13, 2005

Filed under: home — workahead @ 1:32 pm

I’ve been sorting through our landing today. Our landing has a wardrobe, chest of drawers and shelving units. I found some treasures (of a kind!) I found hubby’s aftershave that he only wears on special occasions (like our wedding!) Quite what it was doing with our swimwear, I don’t know! I think it must have had something to do with honeymoon packing!!!!

I also went all the way through my youth resources, throwing a lot out, but rediscovering some things I had forgotten I had. Hopefully I will have a better idea of the different resources I have for the next few months! I really should catalogue them one day, but it would take hours and hours, and it would be hard to find a system that was useful.

We have so much clutter in our lives, and half of it we forget we have! Have a clear out and I bet you’ll find some treasures of your own!!!
